This service focuses on the export cargo flow, including vessel and terminal information. With this new service, we are addressing long-standing requests from the port community; for instance, the new service includes additional data points, (personalized) email notifications, and an API connection.

Cargo Controller Export offers supply chain organisations real-time insight into and control over export cargo. Through a single central service, shippers and forwarders can track export cargo and manage schedules. This ensures more transparency and efficient handling of export shipments. Efficiency is further enhanced by the ability to import key data points directly into your own system via an API, something we will discuss in more detail later on in this article.

The service makes it possible to consolidate data from various links in the logistic chain and better align them with one another. This enables users to respond more quickly and identify necessary actions at an earlier stage. More information about the functionalities of Cargo Controller Export can be found on the service page.

API developed using BDI standards

This is Portbase’s first export service available via a system integration (API). The service was developed in accordance with Basic Data Infrastructure (BDI) standards. These standards make data exchange between logistics parties easier.

An API enables organisations to connect their own systems to the service. This eliminates the need to scour terminal and shipping line websites. Moreover it eliminates the need for manual data entry. A new feature of this API is that, instead of transmitting entire datasets, we send clear messages regarding specific logistics occurrences, known as ‘events’, such as a container’s arrival at the terminal, a scheduled inspection, or a change in a vessel’s arrival time. This ‘event-driven’ approach is a core BDI principle; it simplifies the process of integrating the service with your own software, such as customs declaration or planning systems.

“With the development of this API, we are taking a major step forward in efficiency for export logistics. By using BDI standards, we are making integrations simpler and future-proof” – Product Owner Lading, Portbase

Collaboration within the Digital Logistics Infrastructure (DIL) programm

The API was developed in collaboration with the Digital Logistics Infrastructure (DIL) program. Within this program, various parties are working together to create a future-proof data infrastructure for the logistics sector. By undertaking this API development in partnership with DIL, we were able to learn and improve together. Want to know more about BDI and the maritime Living Lab?
