In this article, we would like to share an update regarding a change within Hinterland Container Notification (HCN) Barge that affects Nextlogic’s integral planning. This change concerns the addition of an ‘OR restrictions’ function when planning a barge rotation. This functionality was requested by both barge operators and Nextlogic.
Earlier this year, a pre-announcement regarding this change was already shared. Due to a temporary shift in focus towards stabilising the performance of Hinterland Container Notification, the change was not implemented within the initial planning. We would like to inform you that this change has recently been implemented.
Background information about the restrictions function
Restrictions can be submitted when planning a barge rotation in HCN Barge so they can be taken into account within Nextlogic’s integral planning.
At this moment, it was already possible to enter ‘AND’ restrictions in HCN Barge for Nextlogic. This functionality has now been extended with ‘OR’ restrictions. As a barge operator, you can now easily indicate that a barge must first discharge at terminal A or B before loading at terminal C.
Do you use HCN Barge via the API?
Would you like to use the OR restrictions function within your own Transport Management System? Then please migrate from the old Update restrictions endpoint to the new Update restriction groups endpoint. We recommend contacting your software supplier for support.
The old endpoint will remain supported for the time being until it is no longer being used. After that, it will be removed and only the new Update restriction groups endpoint will remain available.
Do you use HCN Barge via the web screens?
If you also enter restrictions via the web screens, the addition of OR restrictions now takes place within the same tab where the existing AND restrictions were already managed. The OR restrictions are only available within the standard restrictions functionality and cannot be used for reefer restrictions.
This is the ‘Restrictions’ tab at rotation level.

When adding a restriction, users can now choose whether it concerns an AND or OR restriction.
