UWT (United Waalhaven Terminals) operates 3 locations in the heart of Rotterdam’s container logistics sector. The port company focuses on the large-scale storage, repair and cleaning of containers.
Customers are kept fully up-to-date through their information system. Relevant and accurate data is therefore essential to them: “The supply chain starts with the collection of containers and ends with their return. This means you want to have insight into data about the starting point and end point,” says Willem Beskers, commercial manager at UWT.
Logistical progress through the knowledge of Portbase
Consequently, he has a growing need for all data capabilities: “The exchange of data between terminals creates an operational optimisation that saves us money. In addition, we can help parties in our logistics chain by acting as a ‘data supplier’.” Portbase facilitates this entire process, but understands that companies are reluctant to simply give away their data. Beskers: “We need a party with whom we really work together when it comes to data strategy. So no one-way traffic from our side, but the sharing of knowledge. The more companies participate, the more effectively we all operate.”
