Handling import flows more efficiently via Portbase in the Secure Chain

As a furniture manufacturer with an internationally oriented supply chain, the German company Inter Link depends on the smooth handling of its import containers via the Port of Rotterdam. Since the introduction of the Secure Chain – the partnership between the The Port of Rotterdam Authority, the Municipality of Rotterdam, Dutch Customs, Seaport Police, shipping lines, interest groups, and Portbase, aimed at ensuring a reliable and efficiently functioning of the port – the company has gained efficiency and control in the release and import process. Previously, Inter Link – like many other cargo owners – received a PIN code from the shipping line for each container. That code then had to be forwarded manually to the correct transporter. “It was cumbersome, error-prone and often time-consuming,” says Tania Simioli, Coordinator Import/Export at Inter Link.

Now, with the Secure Chain, this process works fully digital. Through the Portbase service Cargo Controller, the company transfers pickup rights either to a freight forwarder or directly to the inland carrier. This creates a closed logistics chain with only authorised parties involved.

The benefits? Greater security, fewer manual actions, and full visibility into the status of each shipment. “For us, the Secure Chain is a logical step forward,” concludes Simioli. “Thanks to Portbase, we work faster, more securely, and stay in control throughout the entire process.”

Cargo Controller makes the switch from having information to having control over your cargo. Its built-in track & trace functionality provides direct insight on your cargo and the vessels that are expected in the port.

Whether you are a forwarder, shipper, carrier or shipbroker, Cargo Controller enables close monitoring of incoming cargo. The service then enables you to take immediate and appropriate follow-up actions, such as initiating follow-up customs procedures. It gives you real control over your cargo. Everyone can work faster, smarter and more efficiently.
